Soiya Women’s Independent Organization (SWO) was founded in 2013. It is run by the women who it supports. All members and staff in the organisation are women. 80% of our members are from dalit kasts, the rest are tharu, a few are from other casts.
Soiya Women’s Independent Organization works for sustainable livelihoods with a focus on women and children. We have two overall fields of work: Primary Education and Empowerment of Women. In both areas we focus on health, organic farming and mobilising civil society for positive social change.
In our Women’s programme we organise women from marginalised communities and offer training in health, organic gardening and micro business. We support and encourage our female members to claim their rightful share of public ressources and to organise accordingly. The women are organised in groups with saving- and credit as the back bone. The board of SWO consist of seven members and three advisors from these groups. Currently SWO has around 250 members.
In our Education programme we work with 5 local schools to support quality education. In two of the schools we have provided healthy lunch from local organic school gardens since 2010. Currently, we work with two schools and serve lunch for approximately 400 children per day. From time to time we also do educational programmes in the garden.
Partnership and organisation:
SWO is an independent organisation. We work in partnership with the danish organisation School Life in Nepal (in Danish language: Skoleliv i Nepal).
